Cape Coast Castle

In Cape Coast Ghana, I went to an old slave fort, Cape Coast Castle.

The map of the castle

We took a tour and learnt the history of the outer grounds, the male slave cells, the female slave cells, punishment rooms, and secret passage ways. The secret tunnels and hidey-holes were used so that slaves could spy on other slaves and tell their masters of any plans of escape. So many horrible things happened in the cells that the point of the tours are to never forget- so that history is not repeated.

In the male slave cell. When it was actually used, their would be no light.

The door that men and women passed through and never came back.

Fishing community outside the door of no return and on the beach.

Other side of the door of no return, now dubbed Door of Return to signify that defendants of people taken from their homeland can indeed return.
